Lelli Kelly celebrates 30 years with the reissue of its first major success, the “Frangetta Mix” style, never sold before in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This cult shoe was launched for the first time in the period between 1992 and 1993 and, following an important advertising campaign, became a real must-have in Italy.
To mark this prestigious anniversary, the Tuscan maison has decided to reissue the iconic “Frangetta Mix” style after three decades, with two important new features:
– The new release gives a nod to eco-sustainability: the upper material is made with the contribution of apples from Trentino-Alto Adige following the processing for the food industry. The apple scraps, which would otherwise be discarded, are sent to a Florence-based manufacturer where they are used to create innovative and sustainable materials;
– This is a limited edition comprising a total of a thousand pairs of shoes, each duly numbered from 1 to 1.000.
In terms of aesthetics, the new “Frangetta Mix” sneakers are the exact reissue of the ‘90s ones, characterized by a special fringe – “Frangetta” in Italian language – combined with an original trimming with floral patterns. The Lelli Kelly brand and logo also appear in the original vintage version.
To present this new focus on eco-sustainability, Lelli Kelly has commissioned the artist Emy Petrini to create a work of art to be exhibited at the “Pianeta Terra Festival”. The event, which took place in Lucca (Italy) from 6 to 9 of October 2022 on the initiative of Laterza publishing house, dealt with important and current topics such as sustainability, climate, energy and biodiversity.
Emy Petrini is an Italian floral designer and land artist, who works in harmony with Nature and the Seasons and is known for her work based on the principles of eco-sustainability: her artworks and installations are made from crop prunings, which, once harvested in the fields, take on new forms and new life, instead of remaining in the soil to decompose.
The artwork commissioned by Lelli Kelly have been displayed in the artist’s studio, an ancient renovated foundry in Lucca’s historic centre.
